My friend accused me of throwing away 50 years of progress because I want to wait until marriage to have sex?

What do you all think. That really pissed me off. I can make my own choices as a woman. My friend accused me of throwing away 50 years of progress because I want to wait until marriage to have sex?
Sex has absolutely nothing to do with the progress women have made in the world. If nothing else having sex takes away some of the power women have. Stay true to your feelings, sounds like she is trying to make herself feel better by bringing you down to her level. My friend accused me of throwing away 50 years of progress because I want to wait until marriage to have sex?
I think that depends on how you project yourself. If you are simply making that decision for yourself, I agree with you that that's your decision as a woman and that's exactly what feminism is all about- choice.

On the other hand, some people who choose to wait until they're married to have sex are extremely judgmental and self-righteous toward the people who choose not to wait, which makes it less of a personal choice and more of a platform. That's the kind of person that is seen by others as stuck on their pedestal and out of touch.
All politics about sex before marriage set aside, I believe that sex is a huge part of a relation ship and lets face it, anyone who has had more than one partner could tell you that one was better that the other.

Do you want to be stuck with someone who doesn't know how to please you sexually.

This might not seem like a big deal to you now as a virgin but once you have some experience you will regret having only the one partner. The Idea of not having sex before marriage is a religious idea and means nothing in the real world.
There is a historical reason -- women in marriage used to be treated more like property, and virgins were highly prized. This was sometimes enforced with very painful chastity belts and such.

Even today, a promiscuous woman is considered a **** while a promiscuous man is considered a stud. So there is a double standard here. It is much worse in fundamentalist countries, where you can be jailed.
Sry if this offends u but shes a ****..jk or ignorant of social sciences

But neway ... i agree that u should stay true to ur beliefs and feelings no matter what in life, not just for sex/marriage.... its ur decision

PERIOD!!!!

It is unfortunate for her though because a lot of girlfriends go out to parties and talk about sex/life together.. even though there are thousands of other things to talk about and u can still have fun with her... in addition to confusion/ignorance...she may b feeling a little volnerable about how her best friend may abandon her in the future... Subconcious Incecurity

Just try to stay away from the negatives and focus on the positives of ur friendships.... and dont debate her... let her know how u feel and that ur sticking to ur guns.......also know that having sex is her choice... be respectful of her choices too.. friendship is giving AND recieving

if shes a real friends she'll respect ur decision and move on. Friends dont always agree, and the skills to forgive/forget/accept etc r what excell u to become life long buds :)

edit: i agree with u guys on the value of sex but her beliefs dont apply so ur comment is irrelevant
she told you that because she could never do that and the progressive movement for women had nothing to do with sex . wait to be a person with morals fyi im doing that also
Sure you can. Just ignore your friend. Being choosy about who you sleep with and wanting one lifetime partner is not a bad thing-- unless, of course, you are a feminist.
tell then to f off !! more woman should be like you !! if your in love with someone and their in love with you whats the big deal to wait till you are married !!
I think you need a new friend
