Who do homosexuals want to redefine the institution of marriage when civil unions provide the same rights?

Because they think it will give them respect (rather than have it earned) and it will be another blow at America's Judeo-Christian values.Who do homosexuals want to redefine the institution of marriage when civil unions provide the same rights?
In the days of Jim Crow, in the old South, it was called ';Separate But Equal';, but it was learned later on it wasn't equal. In the same way it's not the same, for example, most companies will not honor spousal benefits if it is called civil union. It must be married, so for many legal reasons gay couples have found out it does not grant the same rights married people have. Our constitution guarantees all of us equal protection under the law . .Gay people simply want to have the same rights afforded.to others.Who do homosexuals want to redefine the institution of marriage when civil unions provide the same rights?
This has been addressed extensively. Lots of thought has been put into answering this question. Stop trying to minimize it. Go read some blog entries and essays if you REALLY care why we want our marriage rights to be legalized.

These are real humans you're toying with.

Edit: As for the ';gay free speech police,'; we're planning to eat your children too.
Civil unions don't provide the same rights. Visitation by family members in hospitals is one I know off the top of my head. Also if they travel outside the US, civil unions won't be recognized by another govt if something happens.
From what I'm hearing, Civil Unions don't provide any where near the same rights, especially when children are involved.

What part of the constitution describes marriage? I must have missed that.
no idea. Thanks for the points.

I don't feel strongly either way.

I just do not want any lawsuits for gay rights in the workplace.

Or minority rights, for that matter..
Because civil unions do NOT have the exact same rights.

Gays won't settle for second class.

Besides, wouldn't you rather be married or be in a civil union?
Dear Genius, Civil Unions do not provide the same rights. Do your homework.
Romance instead of reality.
Not clear on that issue. Wanting acceptance may be the reason, but civil unions do that as well I think.
They don't provide the same rights. You ask this like 3 times a day.
