I just don't understand why people think it's so harmful. I don't see how it's any more harmful than straight marriage. Are there any logical reasons to being against gay marriage?
no. some people are just determined to keep others down as a way of making themselves feel worthy. Are there any logical reasons to being against gay marriage?
Well someone elses example of a logical reason may not be your example of a logical reason. It may be logical for them to say gays are icky so I don't want them married. Or it may be logical to say the bible says this is bad (even tho the bible says lots of things are bad, that i clearly do) so I'm going to say no.
There are several reasons, and religion isn't the only one. The government has absolutely no right to redefine marriage.
Leviticus 18:22-23:
';You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination. Also you shall not have intercourse with any animal to be defiled with it, nor shall any woman stand before an animal to mate with it; it is a perversion.';
We believe that the family is the bedrock and backbone of our society. Therefore, the fund邪mental institution which creates the family, marriage, should be protected.
Further, we recognize that marriage as an institution serves a larger purpose than a demonstration of love and commitment between two adults.
We recognize that the State has an interest in protecting the institution of marriage because it is vital to protecting the institution of the family and the family is the bedrock of our society.
We acknowledge that marriage, while a demonstration of love and commitment, also serves for the betterment, growth and continuation of our society because married couples will produce the next generation of Americans.
While not every married couple will produce offspring, no homosexual couple has the physical capacity to do so. This leads us to conclude that a homosexual marriage does nothing for the betterment, growth or continuation of society.
Marriage is in fact a legal contract between not only two parties, the bride and groom, but also the State. The State is a party in a marriage contract because it is the State which sanctions such marriage.
Homosexual marriage does not provide for the next generation of Americans and thus the continuation of our nation. Therefore there is no purpose for the State to sanction such union.
People should start putting the interests of the nation before their own personal agenda. Traditional marriage, generally speaking, provides our nation with the next generation of doctors and teachers and soldiers and scientists. Marriage in this regard is a service to society.
Homosexual marriage serves only the personal agenda of the two homosexual entities which plan to marry. Such homosexual union will not produce offspring. Such union would only clear the streets of rainbow flag parades pleading for ';equal marriage rights'; It is therefore a selfish act.
We recognize, lastly, that homosexuals already have equal marriage rights. Any homosexual man or woman can obtain a state license to marry by following the exact same process everyone else must. There are no questions of sexual orientation on the application for a marriage license.
Due to this as well as other reasons deeply believed by our members, we oppose the legalization of same-sex marriages.
Ha i asked this question to a relative and her answer was ';well think about what they will be doing the night of their wedding...we can't let that happen.'; i had to laugh at her stupidity and thank god that i'm not blood related to her!
no, there is not.
People like to use the whole ';marrige is an act of god, and god says homosexuality is wrong'; but there are civil celebrants who can do the entire ceremony without mentioning god once!
No. Just biased religious propaganda.
no logical ones no
I don't know the logical arguments because i am actually FOR it. To each is own, really.
'cause it takes all the hot guys and girls away from the straight kids?
ewwwwww.... that's gross!!!!!!
I do hope you know i'm being sarcastic here..... *gives you cookies*
the answer is no.
Not one.
some one went on a thumbs down spree.
no their isn't one.
uhm
hell no!
Basically its denying a religions rights to set there own standards.
Soon they'll want people who want to marry animals to get married then relatives then NAMBLA
I mean think about it, if its all about equality and not special attention.
Every individual can get married. No one is being denied the right to marry.
Are there actually ppl following me thumbing me down lol wow
Right religious freedom so if Gays want to create a new religion and think of another name for marriage thats totally legal. But you cant change someone else just to benefit yourself
Thats the thing tho they arent.
Everyone has equal rights to get married. If you ask the courts ';Can I get married'; they will say yes. Every individual person can get married. Thats a right.
I do get it they can get married. Like I said every INDIVIDUAL can get married. Yes you can get married too

Why is marriage so sought after?
I've been with my boyfriend for years now and both of us are quite happy in our routine lives. Everyone asks, when are you getting married? Why is that the assumed next step? Is there anyone else happy without the unneeded piece of paper from the government? Even if children were in the picture, I don't see why, in a loving relationship with trust and comfort and happiness, we need to worry about a pointless ceremony just for tradition. Why is marriage so sought after?
My man and I agree with you. We don't need the paper either. What is rather annoying is all the questions because we aren't married. We no longer answer other than a semi-polite, ';we'll let you know if it happens';.Why is marriage so sought after?
Few reasons I can think of:
-Legal protection in case financial assets are being shared (which happens in long term relationships)
-Legal protection and emotional connection for kids; kids are comparing everything they see around the world with what they have at home. Do their friends have married parents or single parents?
-Religious reasons (depending on the couple)
If it is just a pointless tradition, then what is the harm in going through with it?
Yes, definitely I agree. Getting married does not change peoples character into a positive way, neither makes problems suddenly disappear… if the relationship was rotten before marriage, after marriage it will be just the same … If a relationship is fine and people are happy together they do not sign any paper to show the world how happy they are together. I always regarded marriage as something “useless”, as whether married or not, if the couple does not go on well together, there will be no future.
Marriage is no guarantee for happiness and no guarantee that your partner will never leave you.
What´s important for children is to see their mom %26amp; dad happy together; a family does not mean that there is a paper signed which is interpreted as a kind of obligation.
Sure, we sometimes get married because we want to make our families happy and it is what they expect and nag on you always they see you… spend a lot of money to see everybody eating and drinking for free.
I got married as well and nothing changed between us – Fortunately!!!
But if I were in the same situation again I would buy a flight to Las Vegas and get married there, so we would have fun and enjoy our day.
As on my wedding everybody enjoyed much more than us, running around to make everything perfect and spending such a lot of money on people we never seen again since then…
The piece of paper from the government doesn't matter, what is beautiful about marriage is that it is comforting that someone is making an everlasting promise of commitment to you, to always love you unconditionally. Marriage is a symbol of love. Don't look down on marriage as just an unneeded piece of paper.
Marriage will strengthen a relationship by making the committment in front of the state, friends, family and peers. Without marriage a lng term committed relationship is on shaky ground, and when hard times hit, there may not be enough social support and foundation to see it through.
I totally know how you feel. I don't understand the whole thing either. Not only that like 60% of people that get married end up divorced anyway so its pointless now days. You have to be really ready and make SURE that's what you want!! People don't get that and some people look down on people that have been dating for some time and never get married. I don't ever plan of getting married!! Good luck to you and your BOYFRIEND!! Lol!!
marriage is more than a piece of paper, it is vowing your love or another person for the rest of your life(or suppose to be). it is more meaningful than just dating, but the important thing is that you both are happy together, marriage is just more final. more committedd.
i agree. but if you don't have a will it could cause problem if something happened to on of you. also if you do ever break up it can be harder to sort out the legal stuff. the paper just protects both of you in these cases.
i see where your coming from. just tell them that then when they ask y'all questions like that. its just if two people are together for a while and people see y'all all happy that's the first thing that comes to there mind.
Thats the expectation of the world. I say if you guys are happy the way you are then stay that way. Marriage is a big step
Some people do it because of their religious backgrounds. Others think it's more for stability. There are so many other reasons why it's done. But I can understand what your saying.
it is socially correct to be married
that's just a mind set most people have that.

Who do homosexuals want to redefine the institution of marriage when civil unions provide the same rights?
Because they think it will give them respect (rather than have it earned) and it will be another blow at America's Judeo-Christian values.Who do homosexuals want to redefine the institution of marriage when civil unions provide the same rights?
In the days of Jim Crow, in the old South, it was called ';Separate But Equal';, but it was learned later on it wasn't equal. In the same way it's not the same, for example, most companies will not honor spousal benefits if it is called civil union. It must be married, so for many legal reasons gay couples have found out it does not grant the same rights married people have. Our constitution guarantees all of us equal protection under the law . .Gay people simply want to have the same rights afforded.to others.Who do homosexuals want to redefine the institution of marriage when civil unions provide the same rights?
This has been addressed extensively. Lots of thought has been put into answering this question. Stop trying to minimize it. Go read some blog entries and essays if you REALLY care why we want our marriage rights to be legalized.
These are real humans you're toying with.
Edit: As for the ';gay free speech police,'; we're planning to eat your children too.
Civil unions don't provide the same rights. Visitation by family members in hospitals is one I know off the top of my head. Also if they travel outside the US, civil unions won't be recognized by another govt if something happens.
From what I'm hearing, Civil Unions don't provide any where near the same rights, especially when children are involved.
What part of the constitution describes marriage? I must have missed that.
no idea. Thanks for the points.
I don't feel strongly either way.
I just do not want any lawsuits for gay rights in the workplace.
Or minority rights, for that matter..
Because civil unions do NOT have the exact same rights.
Gays won't settle for second class.
Besides, wouldn't you rather be married or be in a civil union?
Dear Genius, Civil Unions do not provide the same rights. Do your homework.
Romance instead of reality.
Not clear on that issue. Wanting acceptance may be the reason, but civil unions do that as well I think.
They don't provide the same rights. You ask this like 3 times a day.

Has your marriage faced pressure from friends or family to break up.?
I have not had to deal with this... but several friends have.
I am just curious how many people out there are in a relationship that someone else protests constantly, how doe that effect you and your relationship.
has this pressure ever worked? and broken you up?Has your marriage faced pressure from friends or family to break up.?
my sister %26amp; brother cant stand my man but that doesnt matter to me a little bit. I didnt like my bro ex wife and he knew it . but my sister would constantly tell me to dump him and go back to dating the guy who worked at the bank and drove a nice car.
it didnt work i just try to avoid letting them in the same room =)Has your marriage faced pressure from friends or family to break up.?
Definitely yes. And I wish I listened years earlier.
But it was the pressure from her that squeezed me out of the relationship.
If any of my friends behaved that way, they would quickly become my ex-friends.
And lucky for me my family both has sense and also likes my wife.
Yes but we dont care we are happy and just because others dont like us together is just tooooo bad for them. They need to worry about their own life.

I'm puzzled by the Clintons-how does their marriage actually work-in the bedroom?
Really now...you care about this why/I'm puzzled by the Clintons-how does their marriage actually work-in the bedroom?
Why are you puzzled by this, but not the numerous others who have had affairs on their wives: John Ensign, Mark Sanford, Larry Craig, David Vitter, Ted Haggard, John Edwards, Mark Foley, etc? They either try to work it out or they divorce. Clearly, these two have tried to work it out.I'm puzzled by the Clintons-how does their marriage actually work-in the bedroom?
It's just a matter of consenting adults having the right to do with their lives whatever they want to. 鈭犅?
Good Lord! You made all of us picture that. For that you should be punished.
That sounds personal.

What do you need to do to have civil marriage in the Philippines?
the long way:
**Bring with you..yours %26amp; your gf's NSO-copy birth certificates and residence certificates (cedula) to your Local Civil Registrar. File for Marriage License. Fill up a form, pay whatever you need to pay. You can only get the Marriage License (which would be released 10 days after), after you have attended a one day seminar offered by the same office. Your Marriage License is your passport so when you finally have it, schedule, pay for the wedding rites -- the solemnizing officer could be your mayor or a judge.
Short cut:
I agree with the other reply before this...Find somebody who can ';HELP'; you, but be ready to shell out more. Quezon City area? I can give you an address so, you won't have to give anything to that ';somebody to help you';..You can go directly to the judge. He was our solemnizing officer. His staff took care of the authentic marriage license. We were just saved in attending the seminar (which I now realize as important) and the 10day waiting period. But the ceremony is complete. We paid for everything and after 6months I was able to get an NSO copy of our marriage certificate.=)
**Remember to bring a camera (that's needed) and wear formal clothes for the picture...What do you need to do to have civil marriage in the Philippines?
You will need your passport and cetificate in lieu of legal capacity to marry from the EMbassy in Manila or the Cebu Consulate.
She will need her birth certicate, baranguay clearance and CENOMAR certificalte from NSO. ( Certificate of No Marriage).
Licence costs P2500 and you must be in the Philippines for 10 days to make it legal.
Don't think that getting married here automatically gives your new wife citizenship and she can hop on the next plane and go back stateside with you. It does not work that was. There is a ton of paperwork and requirements for her spousal visa and costs of at least $1,500 involved and it takes 9-12 months to process. Thats after you finally get the Marrige Licence from the NSO.
Maybe the K-3 (fiance visa) would be a better route for you ?What do you need to do to have civil marriage in the Philippines?
The list is pretty long and complicated if you don't have help. OR...If you can find the right solemnizing officer, about 300 bucks should take care of it all. I know a guy in Caloocan City can hook you up. Email me and I'll give you his contact info.
As long as both of you are already at a legal age, you just find a judge and pay a certain minimal amount and that's it.
First, you need to get someone to agree to marry you. After that, let her do all the legwork.chemical face peel

Will evangelicals drop the ball and allow same sex marriage in this country?
With a liberal congress they just might pull it off.
Homosexuality is a lifestyle choice that can be corrected I don't want anyone teaching my children that people are born homosexual that is simply not trueWill evangelicals drop the ball and allow same sex marriage in this country?

Yes brother!!! Gay marriage killed the dinosaurs 5500 years ago!!
Twelve reasons gay marriage is wrong:
1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning. Also apparently those homosexual animals have picked up some unnatural behavior.
2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
3) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.
4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.
6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.
7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.
9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
11) Gay marriage should be decided by the people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of minorities.
12) Civil Unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a ';separate but equal'; institution is always constitutional. Separate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as separate marriages for gays and lesbians will.
If you are not homosexual I don't think you have any authority to speak of what it 'is.' Even if you were a homosexual and claimed you 'chose' it there would be millions, probably 99.9% of us who would disagree with you.
If you are saying homosexuality is a choice for YOU then you are bisexual. I know I cannot choose to be attracted to the opposite sex, I never have been, and I am only attracted to women. I think I know a bit more about this than you.
I think people are born gay. But I think being gay isn't natural, I think something in their brain went wrong. Why would a straight person want to be gay? Normal people have attractions to the opposite gender, and like it that way.
I don't think gay people should get married, thats like saying it's ok for a person to get married to an animal because they have romantic feelings for animals, which is not natural
So when did you choose to be attracted to the opposite? How did you come about this decision?
People are born that way, like it or not. There has been many scientific studies that point to that. The only choice homosexuals have is to be themselves or to suppress their feelings to live up to some outdated societal ';standard';.
I certainly hope so.
And if you believe that homosexuals have control over their sexuality, please provide information to back up this belief. Do you know any openly homosexual people? Have you asked them why they are homosexual? Have any of them confirmed that they could change if they tried?
Well, sunshine, homosexuality is no more a 'lifestyle choice' than heterosexuality is. On the other hand, your ignorance of the subject IS a lifestyle choice, a correctable one.
Yeah, heaven forbid anyone should teach your children science and facts. Then you'd have to find something in the Bible to refute that vicious pack of truth.
drop the ball.. well if we did that we wouldnt be the only ones dropping the ball would we ...rofl....
no but seriously, maybe one day!
No.
too bad they cant outlaw idiots
So you are saying that you can just wake up tommorrow and decide you like men. Thats your argument?
Go back to your bible and leave the thinking to the big boys and girls
wow, you give the us a bad name.
i hope not...thats the only thing the world doesn't need
Homosexuality is a lifestyle choice that can be corrected I don't want anyone teaching my children that people are born homosexual that is simply not trueWill evangelicals drop the ball and allow same sex marriage in this country?
