If you are for gay marriage, are you also for incestuous marriages?

Assuming it is between two consenting adults.

Why or why not?If you are for gay marriage, are you also for incestuous marriages?
I'm sure that there are incestuous relationships between consenting adults even though they are not permitted to be legally married. I guess I'm gonna have to say that if they're adults, it's their business. Why deny them and particularly their kids- (whom would benefit from it the most), the legal benefits of marriage?

Difficult question to answer. I'm trying to keep moral judgment out of it. We don't prohibit non-incestuous couples who carry genes known to cause serious birth defects from having kids....so birth defects isn't really a good reason to prohibit incestuous marriage. Society seems ';o.k.'; with allowing children to be born to parents who have high risks for producing children with birth defects.

As long as the relationship is between two informed adults, I'm gonna have to go with ';live and let live.';If you are for gay marriage, are you also for incestuous marriages?
We know the problem with incest is based on an understanding that sexual love should not be professed between father and daughter, sister and brother, etc. because it is considered a perverted form of love and because of the increased chance of birth defects in children from such a union.

Still, there have always been and there will continue to be those that who challenge this societal norm.

I have enough problems of my own and don't care to dictate to other people who they can or can not love. Yes. Two consenting adults should be allowed to marry as they wish.

C. :)
If people aren't causing any harm to others, then what they do with their life doesn't bother me. But having children within the family that close leads to birth defects and contrinuation of illness. If they didn't have children I qwould still be concerned that they may have a mental problem. Incestuous marriage may encourage child abuse.
Assuming ';marriage'; and it's benefits/restrictions are linked to producing offspring and assigning paternity to said offspring, my position is in favor of domestic partnerships for unconventional relationships, rather than marriage.

An incestuous domestic partnership would be legal. And if they produce offspring, the cost of dealing with the ensuing medical problems would fall on the parents, NOT health insurance, public or private.
. and the reif two people want to commit to each other i see nothing wrong with it. i do not like the idea they use God in their vows or be married in a church, unless the church you go to accepts this way of life. a nice outdoor commitment is fine the reason i say no church or God is because the God i worship says it wrong. as long as you do that i dont have a problem and no one else should either as long as its two agreeable adults
Incest is very often part of domestic abuse, and as such incestuous relationships are often abusive, especially if they continue beyond the point where one sibling no longer wants to be involved but is pressured out of abuse, love, a sense of duty and/or fear of the consequences.

If the incest is between parent and child, there would very probably be some long term child abuse involved, and that would be a criminal matter.

As far as siblings go, because of the societal sanctions on this type of relationship and the necessity for secrecy and potential for abuse, it is likely it would be very difficult to have a healthy relationship which involved incest.

However, if two people want to have at it, they will, and unless they are involved in abuse or there is a potential for pregnancies to result which could be unhealthy I don't see why there should be any effort by others to police it.

The difficulty would be finding the fine line between abuse and agreement, given the nature of the relationship.

Personally, I wouldn't care to have sex with any of my siblings, or wider family for that matter, and I would think those who do need to be very careful about the potential for abuse.

Of course, the involvement of any minor children would be an immediate and urgent matter for the police.

Cheers :-)
They ain't aloud to marry either.Unless your in WVA.
Assuming incestuous marriage is between two consenting adults that understand the gravity of the situation and plan to get themselves sterilized (this condition is a must) I have to concede that hypothetically there shouldn't be an issue with it. But in reality this is not the situation, incest is almost always if not always a predatory relationship, and should not be compared to gay marriage, in fact its quite insulting to gays to compare this extremely hypothetical situation of a ';healthy'; incestous relationship to same sex marriage.
I'm against both.
Two very very different issues

Besides (putting the US aside) gay marriage is accepted in many parts of the world.

Incest is the ONLY sex taboo that all humans share, even some none humans some animal species wont do it either. It goes against our instinct to produce healthy blood lines
I'm not for ';gay marriage'; or incestuous marriages.

Actually, ';gay marriage'; is really a euphemism. Gays aren't really calling for the right to marry -- because they already have that right.

They have just as much a right to marry a member of the opposite sex as anyone else.

Marriage is a union of one woman and one man -- and everybody, whether gay or straight, who wants to get married has to play by that rule. The rule is same for everybody.

At the end of the day, I don't really care who sleeps with who -- if two guys, or two chicks, want to go to bed together, then hey, whatever turns you on.

But when they try to change things like marriage around just to get legal sanction for celebrating their lifestyle, that's wrong.

.
I'm personally against both. But I don't support incestuous relationships at all. Often it's not actually two consenting people, even if they claim so.

Not all Southerners are incestuous! Don't be rude, Lostfan. There's more stories of incest in the British and Middle Eastern worlds. Don't buy into stereo-types.
Nice of others to read their own biases into relationships. We could also say that men are forced into marriage beyond consent by a woman getting pregnant on purpose. Let's assume a starting point; that both people comitting incest are consenting and leave the rest of the crap out. What's wrong with their relationship, besides religion? Babies? Abortions are EZ to get.

The 14th Amendment says that the states shall give equal protection of the law. There are no side-notes or asteriks, it says what it says. EACH and EVERY citizen shall have the exact same oppurtunity as everyone else.

I'm against marriage for gays, but I'm patriotic enough to comprehend the Constitution as it is written in black in white, and I refuse to allow any Repugmocrat or one of their black robed thugs at scotus tell me what MY Constitution says. Don't like gay marriage? Amend the Constitution, Think the Constitution can be interpreted in light of modern values? Report to the gulag immediately, Komrads. The founding Fathers knew there would be social and technological change. That's why they wrote the Amendment and Ratification procedure into the Constitution. Another example: Keep your friggin, thieving, stinking, hands off my guns until you write and ratify an amendment!
I am all for a gay marriage if that makes them happy but not for an incestuous relationship. Inbreeding causes all sorts of genetic disorders not to mention the heartache it causes to other family members.

A gay marriage poses no harm to anyone unless one is bigoted.
why would u want to marry someone your related too? can't say i am for that, but i will not judge anyone for their actions

marriage is a instution of love marry who u want
I guess so...2 consenting adults...

I am for civil unions for homosexuals. Marriage is already defined as one man and one woman, therefore, 2 people of the same sex can not get married.
Gay Marriage- no problem, everybody is made differently, I have no right to pass judgment.

As far as incest is concerned, it spreads diseases like Hemophilia and genetic disorders. Basically, it's not a very healthy route to take. But morally speaking, I don't really care, unless It's a father and daughter/ mother and son which can get a little too much!!!
Im not for or against incestuous marriage....

People will do what they wish and just because blood is mixed does not necessarily mean the children will come out retarded or have missing or extra limbs.

I'm sure those who have had incestious relationships have had children who have actually come out perfectly fine.

I mean sure if 2 ppl told me they were married and also related sure i would be shocked....maybe even a wee bit put off...but id get over it.

and then my natural inquisitive nature would ake over and id start asking questions.
As a lot of people have rightly said, they are very different things. Gay marriage is fine, incestous marriage can be cruel on any potential children the couple might have. Incestous gay marriage would aslo be wrong in my opinion, firstly because it is against the law, but more than that, the situation would be so strange that they would most likely be ridiculed by society and there chances of adopting children would be pretty much gone. I suppose if it wasn't such a taboo in todays society I might consider it to be ok.

Edit: its best to find someone you are not related to than go through the hatred and ridicule that is bound to come out of it.
Let me put it to you this way:

Homosexuality happens among the higher orders of non-human mammals.

Incest does not. Most animals instinctively know not to breed with close relatives.

Homosexuality is natural. Incest is not.

Aside from the many other arguments I could present you with, that's the most telling.
Nope, because marriage encourages sex, and incestual sex leads to birth defects and genetic problems.

Gay marriage is wayyy different.

Save the incest for the south of the Dixon line.
I absolutely support gay marriage, and I absolutely do not support incestuous marriages. The reason is that offspring born of incestuous parenthood are SEVERELY more at risk for birth defects and health problems.

';What if they decide not to have children';?

Yea, because intent has a great deal to do with biology, and teenagers quite frequently do not DECIDE to have children. Their bodies do.
I fail to see the comparison
No. Big difference.
One has absolutely nothing to do with the other.
Gay marriages and incestuous marriages are very different things. The only universal taboo in every single known culture is that of incest. This is because even if the science of genetics is not understood, the concept of marrying your father, brother, mother, sister, niece, nephew, aunt or uncle is understood as creating massive problems for the society. Homosexuality is not universally taboo, and is even honored in some cultures. Supporting homosexual marriage does not necessarily mean one needs to support incestuous marriage.
We have permitted same-sex marriage in Canada for a number of years now. No problem, the sun continues to rise in the east and set in the west.

Grow up, moron.
Hell, why not gay AND incestuous marriages? Let's have a truly Enlightened Republic--a populace of outpatients/Clinton voters calling each other ';daddy.';
Ah, the old ';slippery slope'; tactic. Classic.

Gay marriage does not pose any sort of ';threat'; to society, there are no negative repercussions, except in the minds of your more bigoted variety of fundamentalists.

Incestuous relationships pose all kinds of ';threats,'; the genetic problems, the abuse issues, etc.
Only if it leads to Bestiality Unions !!!! Hey Rover bend over !!
Personally I don't like either of them, but that'smy personal preference.,

Rationally:

As long as they are REALLY concenting and love each other. Why not? Even in the bible, The daughters of Lot slept with him. And I don't see anyone condemning that. At the end, as long as the relation works and harms nobody. it's not of anybody else business.

As for birth defects, where is the proof? Have anyone seen a serious study on this? Or is this just an urban legend created by religion.

As for Gay marriages, they are more about companionship. Since you cannot breed between the same sex. Again, as long as they work and harm nobody. They are of nobody business.
