If marriage is religious, then why does it appear at the US constitution?

I was wondering.....because the argument against gay marriage is because it is religious thing. I thought US constitution separates religion? Then why does it appear at the constitution? If marriage is religious, then why does it appear at the US constitution?
The American Constitution was written by Christian men.... the people who started America were Christians and that is why there are so many Christian references all over the place... check out this site...

Marriage is actually two institutions in one. There's religious marriage, and civil marriage. For example, if I go to the courthouse and sign a marriage license, I'm married in the eyes of the law, but not in the eyes of the Catholic Church. In the same way, homosexuals should be allowed to marry each other in the eyes of the law, and let god approve or disapprove as he/she pleases. No one can or will force churches to hold religious marriage ceremonies for homosexuals, even if all states are forced to legalize same-sex marriage.
Marriage, in a church, is a religious experience (like a sacrament in RC)

Marriage as a ';civil union'; is one of the rights gay people are looking to get.

They are citizens, so they should be able to have a recognized civil ceremony, with all the rights that are given to other married couples.

If churches don't want to marry them, that's their right.
Romans 2:14-16 (New International Version)

14(Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, 15since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.) 16This will take place on the day when God will judge men's secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.
For those of you who think that these United States were not founded on religious principles, here is something you may be interested in reading. Our forefathers did not seem to separate church and state did they?
